A new attempt to arrest Ram Bomjon, the ‘Buddha Boy’ of Nepal

Around 150 security personnel sealed off the ashram spread over 42 bighas of land and combed the area, but they could not find Bomjan anywhere.

“We have sealed the ashram area and searched for him in all possible places, but could not find him,” said a police officer involved in the operation.

According to him, two sniffer dogs were also employed in the search.

According to the Nepalese YouTube media and my informers, the police had received a tip-off that Ram Bahadur Bomjon had been seen in his Sindhuli Ashram yet again, in June 2020. The last attempt to arrest him was a day after an arrest warrant was issued on the 6th of February, 2020. That time as well, the police waited too long before arriving to the Sindhuli Ashram, and Bomjon ahad already managed to abscond, according to the media. Now, on the 18th of June, a similar scene repeated. Although the police was searching for him for 8 hours in the jungles around his Sindhuli Ashram, they could not find him. Sources claim that Bomjon had been warned by an informer from the police about the plan to arrest him, so he managed to flee.

The below Nepali language video is using an older footage about Bomjon’s Sindhuli Ashram, but the female narrator voice describes the police raid on the 18th of June, 2020 a few minutes in the beginning of the video:

“SP with Sindhuli Police Ranju Sigdel told Setopati that a team of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has raided his Sindhuli ashram. “There are orders to arrest Bomjon on different complaints but he has not been found despite different raids. A CIB team had arrived after tip off that he is in the ashram,” Sigdel revealed. “We only provided support from here.”

But he was not found. The police looked for him in different buildings inside the ashram and in the surrounding areas. A dense forest surrounds his Sindhuli ashram.”

“The Central Bureau of Investigation of Nepal Police had mobilised a team to arrest him. Police have suspected that he ran away after knowing that the law enforcers were searching for him.

“The ashram lies inside a dense forest. It seems he ran away after we entered the forest,” an official involved in the mission says, “We continued the search for eight hours but to no avail.”
