Ram Bomjon alias Maitreya had been raping a minor nun, Gangamaya, for years, Nepali news informed

“She claimed that Bomjon called her out of the kitchen inside the ashram, dragged her into another room and raped her when his wife Deepshikha had gone to Kathmandu.”  writes Setopati  “A disciple of Bomjon, who worked for him at the ashram, told Setopati that Bomjon consumes yarsagumba to boost his sex drive. “He consumes yarsagumba to boost his libido. I myself have mixed yarsagumba solution and given it to him to drink,” the disciple claimed. Guru’s mobile phone is full of porn videos. I have also watched some of them when he used to give it to me for recharging,” another disciple confided.” Setopati (Archive.org and Archive.today)

Correction: in the previous version of this article I had mistakenly written that the rape victims’s name was Nirmaya, based on the News24 news where the name “Nirmaya” was mentioned to protect the identity of the then minor rape victim. It is now clear from the Setopati article that her name is Ganga Maya Moktan. I apologize for the confusion. The Setopati article was not at my disposal at the time of the writing of the first version of this article.

Nepalese news outlets and TV stations had published new shocking events about the “Buddhaboy” in 2018.  The latest news are about rape: yet, his time not a rape done by Bomjon’s devotee at his order, like in Marici’s case, this time a rape done by Bomjon himself! Gangamaya Tamang, the now 18 years old (who was a minor of 14 when Bomjon first raped her!) had took the courage and finally spoke out about her ordeal. Nepali police, instead of registering her report, had only sent her to a “protected accommodation” and hoped that the whole thing will silence. It did not. Instead, during the investigation by Setopati Digital Newspaper, more and more rape victims had spoken out, and it came to light that five followers of Bomjon, who lived in his ashrams, had disappeared too, among them two nuns who had been seen by witnesses sexually harassed before their disappearance…

“Gangamaya tried to file a complaint against Bamjan in Jawalakhel Police Range on Bhadra 30, saying that Bamjan had raped her. There she was told to go to Metropolitan Crime Division located at Teku. She reached there the following day. Division Head, Dhiraj Pratap Singh refused to take the complaint. He handed her to a child protection organization.”

Sindhuli Saugat: Hidden story of “Mysterious Buddha Boy” ?

UPDATE: Ganga Maya Moktan’s heart-breaking story had been repeatedly told to many Nepali media, yet had met with deaf ears. He mother left the family to work in Gulf countries and never returned. Her own father, an ardent devotee of Bomjon, had rejected her, as well as her two bothers, also devotees, and even spoke out against her own daughter in videos. The 18-years old girl found herself totally without help, vulnerable and abandoned by all, and her only sin was that she escaped from a rapist fake guru Ram Bomjon! Although initially she had approached women-rights activist Sabitri Subedi, who took her to Kathmandu, the lady also stopped to protect her after Kamal Lama, Bomjon’s spokesperson, had “roasted” her – in his own words – three days, so that she stopped to support the rape victim teenager. After this there are no news about Ganga Maya, and the Government and Nepal’s hundreds of human rights organizations and United Nations divisions and branches do not care! Is she alive…?

“Child-protection organization” is certainly not a solution. Ganga Maya needs justice and security! Bomjon’s own follower Ngima Dawa Tamang is owner of a child protection organization Chacchari.org , in the premises of which two of Bomjon’s victims who soon after died, had been “deposited” as well: retired US psychologist and Bomjon’s monk Dr. Moore, and Bomjon’s own sister Manu, lynched to a stat of brain edema by him and his men in 2015 (died of her injuries in 2016 in another follower of Bomjon, khenpo Sonam Gyurme’s Swayambhunath monastery BTMC ).

There is a great danger that police had been cooperating with Ram Bomjon’s politically connected followers for bribe, as was i my case in 2012 and many other cases. In that case we should seriously worry about the safety, health and life of Bomjon’s abandoned young victim, Ganga Maya Moktan!

In the below video the teenager rape victim Ganga Maya is confronted with Bomjon’s powerful political supporter Mani Lama in a press conference, and details the terrible years spent in Ram Bomjon’s “maitreyan hell”, where she had been working manually very hard as his personal servant, together with three other young girls, and though all of them had been nuns, Bomjon was raping them at any occasions when his “official girlfriend” Dipshika left for hospital to the city.

UPDATE jULY 22, 2020: The video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIQUFukp-PA&feature=youtu.be had been deleted. . By reverse search of the “PIQUFukp-PA” of the link we can find out which video it was. Please be careful not to click on the fake “video-hosting” websites which are set up by Ram Bomjon’s followers to infect you with viruses! The video thumbnail looked like this (its title was राम बहादुर बोम्जन लाई यस्तो छ आरोप हरु – Ram Bahadur Bomjon lai yasto ccha aaropharu – Such are the accusations against Ram Bahadur Bomjon):

The story which was circling on Nepali media in around the first half of 2018 and had been first brought to my attention by a Tamang family, my longtime friends in Chitwan, and paradoxically, until the latest events, Bomjon’s devotees! I was quite shocked. Until then I was always thinking that Bomjon himself would never rape, he only ordered rape to do by his followers to his hostages. hearing about this case many pieces of the mosaic had fit together, concerning “mysterious phenomena” in Halkhoriya during my stay there as first a volunteer, later a hostage…

The cherry on the cake is that, according to the interviews, Dipshika, his wife, had confirmed to the nuns that Bomjon had this “bad habit” of raping other girls here and then, only that she asked Gangamaya not to speak out because that would harm the good reputation of “Guruji” and his “dharma”. Dipshika had warned Ganga Maya at various occasions not to disclose the rapes to the public, otherwise “there would be bloodshed from the hands of followers” as the girl recounted to the media. The news in Nepali also speak about Bomjon’s occasional habit of raping women already during his early Halkhoriya stay, but his followers did not consider these cases alarming.  As if raping women would be the most normal thing for a world-famous guru, of whom Nepal is so proud that even invites to meet its prime ministers and provides him police protection of hundreds of troops, this breaking news had escaped any sensation and limelight.

Setopati Digital Newspaper published a very informative article based on many interviews not only with the rape victim Gangamaya, but also with other rape victims and disappeared followers’ family members: Series of sexual exploitation and violence in Bomjon’s ashrams.

(Archive.today and Archive.org)

Setopati writes: “”Tamang tried to lodge a police complaint but the police handed her over to an organization working for protection of children instead of filing it.”

In Nepal, it is again and again proved, police and other authorities are not ready to investigate and bring to justice those who have contacts with the “thulo manche” (influential people), have a lot of money and/or political support. Bomjon belongs to this category, thus none of his crimes against more than 40 victims had been ever investigated and punished by the authorities. The only ones who investigated Gangamaya’s painful case, was the media, especially Setopati:

“Setopati investigated her allegations, Bomjon’s character and the activities going on inside his ashrams for the past three months.

We went to Sarlahi, Rautahat, Makwanpur, Bara, Sindhuli and Nuwakot districts and talked with 25 persons including three nuns, who ran away from Bomjon’s ashram risking their lives, and their family members in these three months.

Image above: Ganga Maya Moktan in the interview with Setopati’s Ameet Dhakala and Shova Sharma in 2018. Source: Setopati YouTube Channel

We talked with one nun, with deteriorating mental health, who left the ashram after suffering sexual exploitation for a long time. There are four persons, who were once his disciples, and have witnessed Bomjon’s misbehavior and violence. We also talked with family members of three nuns who went to his ashram at different times and are missing now.”

Setopati gives details which we cannot find in other news:

“At least three nuns who stayed at his ashram are missing. Their disappearance seems suspicious on the basis of statements by their family members and eye witnesses who have seen their harassment at his ashram.”

This gives not only  suggestion that the two nuns had been suffering rape by Bomjon or his followers, but even that they might have been silenced, locked up, tied to a tree in the jungle or worse…

According to the article, Gangmaya’s was sent to Bomjon by her father, after he married another woman, because her own mother died while working in Saudi Arabia. Her father is also  devotee of Bomjon, and after the rape did not stand behind his daughter but stood behind his “guru”. Before he sent her to stay in Bomjon’s Sindhupalchok ashram, he warned her that the “guru” would sometimes test his devotees. So when he started to inappropriately touch the minor girl, she thought first that this was a spiritual test.

I recall that I had been considering Bomjon’s violence, keeping me hostage on two separate occasions and public humiliating also as a form of testing, if my faith and devotion is strong enough, if my self-discipline is good. We, victims, who used to be admirers of Bomjon’s holy aura, had always thought that he cares about us, each individual, with great love and care, and wishes us to be spiritually perfected… The reality revealed is so heart-breaking that many devotees might have fallen mad of the spiritual disappointment, the shock and the fact that it is too late to escape.

Gangamaya, when she started to understand that what was happening to her was no testing and not directed towards her spiritual purification, decided to leave the ashram. Before it she had but warned some other young girls that this could happen to them as well, and helped them to escape. I remember how excited one Bomjon follower lady was in 2013 when she told me that many local mothers had gave their toddler (!) daughters to Bomjon’s care to make them nuns, after he moved to Sindhuli. This was already after I had been tortured and sexually abused in his Halkhoriya settlement! The parents of young girls either agreed with the torture of “two witches” in 2012 by Bomjon (one of them myself), or the truth about Bomjon was hidden from them.

Child-safety – ignored an hijacked

One Nepalese mainstream media News24 also included the news about Bomjon raping a woman in September 2018, unfortunately only in Nepalese. Below I give a short translation of what is in the TV interview:

The story, told by the victim 18-years old Gangamaya, originally of Rautahat District, an orphan girl who wished to achieve enlightenment, describes Bomjon raping her in Sarlahi District’s Pattharkot, during the time when his wife (Dipshika?) was pregnant and went to Kathmandu’s Om Hospital for examination. Below the video I describe in short what the victim is saying.

She had been visiting Bomjon to get spiritual blessings. When he started to rape her, in 2014, she first thought that this was a spiritual test, the one that Buddhists and some Hindus acknowledge as a “testing method” of a devotee. So she did not report it, she continued to be devoted to him. Gangamaya Tamang says that another occasion when Bomjon raped her was when his wife went again to Kathmandu, to Tilganga Eye Hospital, and this was already in 2016. His brother was also aware of this event.

It happened at night at 9 PM, when she and another girl, Rita Tamang, slept in the kitchen. Bomjon came, pulled Gangamaya out to another room, covered her mouth so she was unable to even shout for help, and raped her, touching her body all over, “as if I was his wife”, she describes. She reported the rape to police, but it had no effect. When she told his wife what Bomjon did to her, she answered that she should not speak about it “outside”, because “our guru is a real, divine guru and it would harm the belief of his devotees”.

State must watch Bomjon closely!

Due to Gangamaya Tamang’s wrning 17 nuns 7 had left after h realized what was this all about. Foreigners had independently described me Bomjon’s wife as someone who is rather a victim herself, but she is apparently unable to separate from her brutal husband, for emotional or financial reasons.

Gangamaya describes that there was another girl raped regularly by Bomjon in his premises, Kamali Moktan. She is from Sindhuli, but she was also staying near the guru in Sarlahi.

Gangamaya, not finding any help or support, finally left Bomjon’s ashram, leaving behind her mobile (in Nepal nearly everyone owns a smartphone!) and 800 000 Nepalese Rupees. At the end of the News24 interview it is said that, on the contrary to her claims, police had accused her of robbing Bomjon and the ashram and claimed that many expensive objects had been found in her bag… It is typical for this cult of “Maitreya” to accuse the victims of dire criminal deeds, I had my own experiences when they had accused me of attacking Bomjon myself, or, at other occasions, of making black magic against him, disturbing his meditation, and many other things…

It is probable that police, who has crowds of Bomjon-devotees in its rows, is trying to conceal the real criminal act and turn the case against the victim herself. We all, more than 40 victims of Bomjons, had the same approach of police and later on even media.

An October 2018 interview with Sabitri Subedi, a women’s rights activist who speaks, among others, also about the Bomjon rape case, describes how the case proceeded, typically for Bomjon and typically for Nepal:

  • the girl had been allegedly “hidden” in a women’s shelter
  • the attempt of women’s rights activists to include police and media and visit the site of rape, questioning Ram Bomjon himself, had failed, and the police told they were “unable to arrest Bomjon”
  • Bomjon’s political supporter Mani Lama and even Kamali Moktan, the other victim’s own father, told in the media that the story had been made up by Gangamaya, who had been allegedly paid high amount to “dirt the dharma” of Bomjon and harm his name
  • Sabitri Subedi was unable to get the Parliament and police to proceed with the case, she says it is their responsibility, but it is clear that nothing had been done to satisfy the law and human rights of the victims
